We have reviewed quite a few books from Amazon.com about weddings, and recommend the books featured below. We hope that you enjoy them and find them useful too!
by Lynn Beahan, Scott Shaw (Paperback)
From Library Journal: Here's a guide for couples willing to break some traditional rules. Behan and Shaw, who eloped with his wife in 1997, offer a short history of elopement and talk about reasons modern couples elope: stress reduction, finances, and the desire to be unique. They define elopement today as anything other than the big, traditional wedding and discuss options ranging from minimally planned escape elopements to some of the hybrid wedding-elopement choices like surprise weddings, dinner-party weddings, destination weddings, and theme weddings also covered extensively in Robin Kring's Storybook Weddings (Meadowbrook, 1998). Sidebars feature happy couples discussing their elopements, while a quiz helps readers identify which elopement option is right for them. Sections on communicating the big decision to others and elopement etiquette are quite helpful. More than half of the book discusses where to wed, offering tips on web sites, wedding packages, and favorite, romantic, and exotic locales. For all collections. Want to have a wedding, but not get stuck in a rut?, April 9, 2002 Reviewer: An Amazon.com Customer from Santa Monica, CA USA "For those of us who shudder at the thought of wearing white at our weddings, or maybe you just think a little outside the box... this book is for you. Definitely more of an idea generator than an actual planner, it nonetheless does a very fine job of doing exactly what it's titled: A Guide for the Anti-Bride. Divided into chapters that are separated by tabbed pages with a small pocket for loose notes, the information is collated in a very organized fashion. The language is friendly, never high-handed (Emily Post, anyone?), and it certainly made me feel much better about deciding to have an actual wedding my way without the tradition police descending down upon my ceremony and reception. A great investment, especially paired with one of the larger "binder-style" wedding planners that tend to follow the more traditional route."
